Yet again, ETS provides great service

(notice the sarcasm above)

In an unrelated note I had to call ETS today, this time for something related to the Toefl exam. No big deal, just a quick question. I spoke to Dan this time. Apparently these people are trained to give snotty replies. I guess I'll have to come up with some of these lines and save them for future calls to them. (drop me a line if you have one or two!).

If you read back to my first phone call with ETS, you may remember how the conversation went. I asked the lady over the phone if she would remember the exact way she signed up for something 2-3 months ago (using 1 or 2 last names, taking into consideration I fill up dozens of internet applications & sign ups in a couple of months). Her reply was something really snotty, along the lines of "duh, obviously I would remember, wouldn't you?". I guess I must be stupid, because I really couldn't remember. If you sign up to several services (like I do) and you sometimes have to use different usernames because your's is taken, you may know what it's like.

So today I asked Dan a simple question. I needed some test results shipped to a college so I asked about the options I had, since I needed it done as soon as possible. So his answer was something along the lines of "well, as our terms of agreement for the test states and you should have read carefully our only way of sending scores is by mail and it takes about 4 days to process the order, 7 days to send the scores and 7 days to arrive". Well sorry Dan, but I'm sure I did read those term.... almost 5 months ago when I took the test in December.

I guess all of their employees are really anal (ha!), or they just seem to have really snotty answers for everything. I can understand a bad day..... maybe they all have bad days everyday? Could be.

Snotty replies..... post your suggestions below! (no swearing!)

Later!

PS. I later called the university to try to sort things out. I was surprised how different (good and helpful) people over there were. Everything is sorted out and fine.

Me and another student weren't allowed to take the GRE because we didn't have our Passports. We had our Driver's license but this wasn't enough.

The most frustating part was that I tried to call ETS and they had the worst customer service that I had seen in a while. The way their employees treat customers is an insult. I called 3 times and only until the third time was I able to speak to someone that was a little bit helpful.

I refuse to pay another 130 dollars but I will have to do it if I want to go to Gradschool. I barely have money to pay my tuition and it is really sad that a monopoly like ETS is taking advantage of students to obtain a profit, and worst that they don't even have a decent customer service when they are a company that provides services.

I am aware that they mention that we have to bring our Passport somewhere in their 20 page booklet, but as a student that is taking 5 engineering classes and is working half time, I just don't have time to go over all their instructions. And now that I had to go through this frustating situation, I was expecting at least a good customer service.

Anyway, it was good to find your website. I'm pretty sure that there are other people that went over the same situation and that is looking for a place to complaint.

I am currently petitioning ETS on change.org for a similar situation. My registration was in my maiden name, but my Id was my married name so I was turned around, even though I provided my marriage license and several other documents to prove my identity. They really need to change their policy. Sign the petition so we can start the process. Thanks. Go to change.org and search "ets" the petition will come up.

I filed a complaint through Better Business Bureau (BBB). I received one response from ETS, but no resolution. The case was closed in the end, but it is still recommended to file a complaint with BBB since this bureau keeps the records of ETS's ill practice. If enough complaints were submitted, BBB can take an action to audit ETS's poor service and policy.
